Demolition Derby
Eight AI cars smash their way through a 6-derby tournament — drama-cam, tire tracks, last-car-running takes the cup.
What this is
Eight cars in a dirt arena ringed by pre-baked bleachers full of silhouette spectators with rare colored shirts and the occasional camera flash. Each car has HP and an AI that hunts the weakest. Hits kick up tire tracks that accumulate across the floor. Wreckage glows orange while fresh. The drama-cam eases into big collisions. The bracket — quarters, semis, grand final — fills in live as winners advance. Last car running takes the cup, the field resets, and the next tournament begins.
Why this is mind-blowing
It's a complete sports broadcast in one tab. The bracket gives chat something to root for. The drama-cam makes every big hit feel like a clip. The tire tracks tell the story of who chased whom. The audio crunches sell the carnage. The grand final — usually two badly damaged survivors limping at each other — is genuinely tense. It loops forever with zero operator touch.
Build a single-file HTML page that runs an 8-car demolition derby
tournament. Quarters → semis → grand final, bracket fills in real time.
Box-collider cars approximated as circles for stable impacts. Damage
scales with relative velocity, with a front-on multiplier and a glancing
penalty. AI seeks lowest-HP enemy, leads the target, dodges wreckage.

What I learned shipping it
- Damage = relative-velocity × 0.14 with a 1.3× front-on multiplier and 0.6× glancing penalty produces visibly fair, readable hits.
- Tire tracks on a separate offscreen canvas turn into a permanent record of the round — chat will literally rewind their eyes across the floor.
- A drama-cam that eases zoom toward the largest impact each second is the cheapest cinematography you can add to any auto-game.
