The Arctic Survival — Body Temp as Antagonist, Wolves at Night
Stranded in arctic blizzards. Your body temperature drops every second whether you act or not. Build fire. Hunt rabbits with a bow. Wolves come at night. Survive 5 nights.
What this is
You're stranded on procedural snow plains. Body temperature gauge drops every second whether you act or not — it's the clock. Hunger drains slowly. Stamina depletes when you sprint. Approach a tree, E to chop — takes 3 chops, gives 1 firewood. Five firewood + open ground + E lights a fire that casts warm light and recovers temperature when you stand near it. Bow + 4 rabbits scattered for food (cooked at the fire). Three weather states cycle every 30-70 sec — CLEAR, OVERCAST, BLIZZARD. Blizzards cut visibility to 18m, double cold drain, and let wolves get close. At night, wolves spawn and orbit your fire — flee within 7m of a lit one, pursue if you wander further. Survive 5 nights to win.
Why this is mind-blowing
The Long Dark is a $25 game that took years to make and still gets patched. This nails its core loop in 1310 lines. The temperature gauge alone is the whole horror — you don't need the wolves, but you have them anyway.
First-person arctic survival. Procedural snow plains with rolling hills,
scattered pines, frozen lake. Body temperature drops continuously,
drops faster in blizzards or at night. Build a fire from gathered wood.
Hunt rabbits with a bow. Wolves stalk you at dusk. Whiteout blizzards
reduce visibility to 5m. Survive 5 nights to win. Body temp 0 = death.

What I learned shipping it
- The clock IS the antagonist. Temperature dropping every second, regardless of player action, creates constant background tension that doesn't need monsters.
- State-machine weather (CLEAR → OVERCAST → BLIZZARD) with smooth lerping fog/sun/wind/particle parameters is more atmospheric than discrete weather events.
- Wolves that flee lit fires within 7m radius gives the fire mechanic real strategic value. Without that radius, the fire is decoration.
